ABOUT.

NYA’S WORK IS A COMMENTARY AND RESPONSE TO THE MORE MELANCHOLIC AND ALL-CONSUMING EMOTIONS THAT WE EXPERIENCE THROUGHOUT LIFE, APPROACHING THE TOPIC FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF SOMEONE WHO HAS BATTLED WITH DIFFERENT ASPECTS OF MENTAL ILLNESS. NYA EXPLORES THEMES OF ISOLATION, EXISTENTIALISM, LONELINESS AND YOUTH; UTILISING COMMON GROTESQUE THEMES INSPIRED BY ERO GURO NANSENSU AND CINEMATIC GORE, JUXTAPOSING THEM WITH VIBRANT AND SWEET ‘KAWAII’ IMAGERY, THAT VIRTUALLY REVERSES OR TRIVIALISES THE DISTURBING PAIN PORTRAYED, WITH ITS OVERWHELMING INNOCENCE AND JOVIALITY.

NYA HAS RECEIVED A DIPLOMA IN BTEC ART & DESIGN AND IS CURRENTLY IN HER SECOND YEAR OF THE FOUNDATION ART & DESIGN DEGREE COURSE AT KINGSTON COLLEGE. SHE PLANS TO CONTINUE ONTO THE BA TOP-UP COURSE IN 2021-22.
